Description
Dr. Zhou completed his undergraduate studies on a full academic scholarship as a Meyerhoff Scholar at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He then worked as an IRTA fellow at the NIDDK/NIH before matriculating into the Medical Scientist Training Program (MD-PhD) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Throughout his medical training, he has been recognized for his dedication to his local Baltimore community and exemplary patient care. Dr. Zhou completed a PhD in Epidemiology and Human Genetics where he used protein and peptide microarrays, bioinformatics, and reverse vaccinology approaches to identify candidates for a severe malaria vaccine. He also have a deep expertise in bench research. His current scientific interests span topics that include clinical/translational/precision medicine, public/digital/global health, genomics/informatics/data science, and machine learning/artificial intelligence. He has published over a dozen peer-reviewed manuscripts in addition to abstracts and a book chapter, as well as presented at various conferences and academic settings. As an aspiring physician-scientist, he aims to develop personalized therapies and point-of-care diagnostics that can impact disadvantaged populations.
